Professor Dato’ Dr. Noraini Idris gained her PhD from The Ohio State University, USA and has been the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at Sultan Idris Education University since 2010. Prior to this, she had been the Dean of the Faculty of Education at University of Malaya. She has published a variety of national and international academics publications to her credit and is a Fulbright Research Fellow. Subsequently, she presented papers both nationally and internationally and conducted several researches with UNESCO, the British Council, Australian Universities – such as Melbourne, Sydney, Western Sydney, and the Sumitomo, Japan. Her research areas are mathematics education, teacher education, computer-assisted assessment, higher education, and comparative education. Currently, she is the principal investigator for a a government-funded research on Development of A Teacher Education Model for Preparing Quality Teachers for The Future and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM). She is an active research member on Classroom for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics research team comprises of USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, and China. She is also an International Editorial Advisor/Reviewer for Journal of Mathematics Education, USA and Research Academic Journal, USA. Among her distinctions are the Distinguished Diversity Enhancement Awards- the only Asian recipient for the project on Minority Young Scholars Project and the Graduate Research Alumni Student Award from Ohio State University, a Gold Medal for ITEX (Geneva, 2005) and Best Award at MTE 2007, 2009 on designing assessment system for school-based assessment and higher education on Gold Medal at ITEX 2011, 2013, 2014 for designing Module of Teacher Education.
Prof Dr. Parmjit Singh is a professor at the Faculty of Education, University Technology Mara, Malaysia. He obtained his PhD in Mathematics Education at the Florida State University, United States, in 1998. Parmjit’s research interest focus on learning and development in mathematics with specific interest in cognition processes. He is the founder of Mathematical Thinking Research Group and currently working on Mathematical Thinking Development perspectives among both students and instructors. He has research publications and paper presentations in both local and international arena and written more than 20 books. In term of innovation, he won Gold medal award at the Brussels EUREKA for “Mathzzle Board Game” 58th World Exhibition of Invention, Research and New Technologies, Brussels, Belgium. In 2016, he also won a gold medal in his new invention on Math Zap attack, a card game in improving student’s numeracy skills.
Dr. Leong Kwan Eu is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Malaya. He earned a doctorate from Columbia University Teachers College in New York. In addition, he also holds a Masters of Mathematical Education with Communication and Information Technology from University of Malaya and a Master of Science, Master of Arts and Master of Philosophy from Columbia University. He has 15 years of teaching experience at the secondary school and college level. His research areas include mathematical modeling, mathematical thinking, technology in mathematics education, secondary school mathematics education, statistics in quantitative data research and structure equation modelling(SEM) analysis.
Mr Suhaimi is the Managing Director of Ardent Educational Consultants Sdn. Bhd. He is also the founder of Kangaroo Math Malaysia, a national movement to promote mathematical education in Malaysia through programmes that involve students, teachers, parents and community members. He is also the national trainer for the International Mathematical Olympiad since 2006. He is the country’s representative to two international organizations, the Association Kangourou sans Frontieres (mathematics) and the Bebras International Organization (informatics). Mr Suhaimi graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA with a degree in mathematics.
Mr Lee Eming is the Academic Director of Academy TeamMathics, a one-stop Maths Resource Centre for students who aim to excel further in the Mathematics field. TeamMathics shares the best practices in Maths learning and HOTS development. Mr Lee is also the Team Leader in developing Maths Enrichment Programme (MEP) for TeamMathicians and a Lead Consultant for Programme and Licensing in TeamMathics. Having more than 10 and 20 years respectively in teaching competition maths and teaching enrichment maths, Mr Lee has also trained many students who have won the prestigious ASEAN Scholarships apart from winning top achievements in Kangaroo Math Competition (KMC), International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS), Australian Math Competition (AMC), American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO), Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), International Junior Mathematics Olympiad (IJMO) and Asia International Mathematics Olympiad (AIMO). Academy TeamMathics is a popular name in the mathematics field as it is a training partner under SMO Education Group (www.smo-testing.com) for American Math Olympiad (AMO), Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC) and Asia International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO).
Pn. Teh served in the Teacher Education Institute (TEI) for 20 years in mathematics education and was seconded to SEAMEO RECSAM as a senior specialist in mathematics education in 2016. She had gone through many waves of changes and development in teaching mathematics. She lectured on mathematics Education courses for the diploma program and degree program in primary mathematics. She was also actively involved in developing course work assessment and mathematics curriculum for the TEI which was relevant to her area of academic interest. Currently she is involved in conducting mathematics education course for ASEAN and African in-service teachers. Her previous involvement in school practicum while in TEI led her to be involved in lesson study since 2010. She visited Tokyo Gakugei University in June 2016 to participate in a lesson study immersion program. Based on that experience, she wishes to promote further lesson study with the local teachers/educators to bring about the self- elevation of professional practices, particularly in teaching mathematics through problem solving.
