𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐘 𝐊𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐇 𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐀 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐑𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐂𝐎𝐕𝐈𝐃-𝟏𝟗 𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐂 𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍

We thank all participants and schools who have registered for the Kangaroo Math Competition which was scheduled to take place on 26 March 2020.

Due to the current developments surrounding the COVID-19 situation, and the uncertainties facing us in the days ahead, we urge everyone to take utmost care of your health and safety, and to closely follow the guidelines issued by the authorities.

Because of this issue, there are some changes in Kangaroo Math Competition 2020, namely:

𝟏. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎: The Teacher-in-charge can postpone the competition date from 26 March 2020 to any date within the next one month. Hopefully, the situation will get better by then. If more time is needed, please inform the Kangaroo Math secretariat.

𝟐. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬-𝐢𝐧-𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞: The contest package will be sent out to all schools this week. Please keep the contest package secure and confidential until the (postponed) contest date at your school.

𝟑. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 (𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐚 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥): The Kangaroo Math Competition scheduled for individual participants on 26 March 2020 at four venues (Sunway College, SJKT Tasek Permai, SMK Taman Daya & SMK Sacred Heart) are canceled.

*As an alternative, the individual participants will be arranged to take the Kangaroo Math Competition 2020 online. A more detailed explanation will be sent by email to all Persons-in-charge of individual participants this Friday (20 March 2020).

We urge all schools organizing the Kangaroo Math Competition (at the postponed date) to comply with best practices for health and safety, in particular:

𝟏. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐚 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚 𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐧𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫.

𝟐. 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞, 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞𝐬.

𝟑. 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫.

𝟒. 𝐎𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐲𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬.

2020 has been an exceptional year, and this unfortunate situation is not only experienced by participants in Malaysia, but also the 6 million Kangaroo Math participants from all over the world.

Despite this less-than-ideal situation, let us continue to do the good work of promoting mathematics and problem-solving among the young people of Malaysia while keeping health and safety as our number one priority.
